Traditional Timberframers

We support all efforts to preserve our timberframe heritage. In adapting old barns for reuse, we believe it is important to preserve as much of the barn as possible in its new configuration including the original fabric of the building as well as the traditional technology that was used in its construction. We think it is important to preserve the barns of New York as a unique part of our American heritage.

TTRAG Goals:

  • To save and/or survey old and traditionally timber-framed buildings.
  • To develop a survey form and checklist to be used by members and others in cataloguing old buildings.
  • To contact appropriate related groups to make them aware of our existence and services.
  • To examine the evolution of timber framing.
  • To develop a shared archive.
  • To create appropriate restoration policies and practices.
  • To promote the use of traditional materials and joinery in timber framing.
  • To pursue funding from all sources to achieve these goals.
